Dong Thap

Dong Thap is one of the three provinces of Dong Thap Muoi region in Mekong Delta. It is bordered by Long An, Tien Giang, An Giang, Vinh Long, Can Tho and Cambodia. The capital of Dong Thap is Cao Lanh city. Another well known centre is Sa Dec Township where writer Marguerite Duras spent her adolescence during French time and wrote her famous “The Lover” novel. Some yellow colonial houses remain there.

Tram Chim National Park
Located in Dong Thap Muoi (Dong Thap province), Tram Chim National Park is one of three significant sites for bird watching in South Vietnam. Covering an area of 7,588 ha, the sanctuary boasts several rare birds including the Sarus Crane listed in World’s Red Book. Tram Chim can be accessed directly by road, around 40 km from Cao Lanh city. The best time for birdwatching in the park is from January to May and for photographing is at dawn and dusk.
Sa Dec Flower Garden
Known as “the garden of Cochinchina”, Sa Dec is very famous for its horticulture industry. Its soil is suitable for all kinds of domestic and exotic flowers to flourish. The garden is blooming year round and beautiful bonsais adorn its vibrant atmosphere.
Go Thap Oc Eo Cultural Vestige
Go Thap is about 42km from Cao Lanh city. It used to be an important religious centre for Funan Empire from 1th to 6th century CE. Go Thap is now a significant archaeological site with thousands of valuable artifacts having been discovered, mainly statues and carvings.
Getting there & away
The capital of Dong Thap, Cao Lanh is around 160km from Ho Chi Minh City. Local buses from My Tho, Can Tho, Vinh Long and Long Xuyen ply the route to Cao Lanh and Sadec.
